Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Bread:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk

For the Apple Swirl:

  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For the Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Mix Butter and Sugar: Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until combined.
  4. Prepare Apple Swirl: Mix the diced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  5. Layer and Swirl: Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan, layer half of the apple mixture on top, then repeat with the remaining batter and apples. Swirl the layers together with a knife.
  6. Bake: Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool and Glaze: Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth and drizzle over the cooled bread.

Notes

  • Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples work best for a balance of tartness and sweetness.
  • This bread tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld.
