For the Bread:
1/2cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2cup milk
For the Apple Swirl:
2 medium apples, peeled and diced
1/3cup brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
For the Glaze:
1/2cup powdered sugar
1–2 tbsp milk
Instructions
Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
Mix Butter and Sugar: Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until combined.
Prepare Apple Swirl: Mix the diced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
Layer and Swirl: Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan, layer half of the apple mixture on top, then repeat with the remaining batter and apples. Swirl the layers together with a knife.
Bake: Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool and Glaze: Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth and drizzle over the cooled bread.
Notes
Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples work best for a balance of tartness and sweetness.
This bread tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld.
