Units Scale

For the Bars:

  • 2 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (plus more for topping, if desired)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the mashed bananas, melted butter, sugars, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Add to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the pan, smooth the top, and add extra chocolate chips on top if desired. Bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool and Slice: Cool the bars completely in the pan before slicing into bars.

Notes

  • Use overripe bananas for the best flavor.
  • Add chopped walnuts or pecans for extra crunch.
  • These bars freeze well—wrap individually and store for up to 2 months.
