  • 1 pound large prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Seasoning:

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red chili, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup spring onions, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • Salt, to taste

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Prawns: In a bowl, combine the cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Coat the prawns in this mixture.
  2. Fry the Prawns: Heat oil in a wok or deep skillet. Fry the prawns until golden and crispy. Set aside.
  3. Make the Seasoning: In a separate pan, heat some oil and sauté garlic, chili, and spring onions. Add Chinese five-spice powder, white pepper, and salt.
  4. Combine: Toss the fried prawns in the seasoning mixture until well coated.
