Units Scale

For the Bars:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Prepare the batter: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt, then gradually add to the wet mixture until fully combined.
  3. Layer the bars: Spread about two-thirds of the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Spoon the cherry pie filling evenly over the batter. Drop the remaining batter by spoonfuls over the cherry layer.
  4. Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  5. Make the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract (if using) to make the glaze.
  6. Finish and serve: Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars before slicing and serving.
