Potatoes:

  • 2 1/2 lbs russet potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)

Cheese Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Garnish:

  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Make Cheese Sauce: Melt butter, whisk in flour, then gradually add milk and cream. Stir in seasonings and cheeses until smooth.
  3. Layer Potatoes: Alternate layers of sliced potatoes and cheese sauce in the baking dish.
  4. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20–25 minutes until golden.
  5. Rest and Serve: Let it rest for 10 minutes before garnishing with parsley and serving.

Notes

  • Yukon Gold potatoes can be used for a creamier texture.
