Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls with Blueberry Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

Soft and fluffy blueberry cinnamon rolls filled with a sweet blueberry-cinnamon mixture and topped with a luscious blueberry cream cheese frosting.

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup blueberry puree (blended fresh or frozen blueberries)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, melted butter, salt, eggs, and flour. Mix and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine blueberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Cook until thickened and let cool.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Spread the blueberry filling over the dough.
  6. Roll up tightly from the long side and cut into 12 rolls. Place in a greased baking dish.
  7. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly.
  9. In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and blueberry puree. Mix until creamy.
  10. Spread frosting over warm rolls and serve.

Notes

  • You can use frozen blueberries, but thaw and drain them first.
  • For a stronger blueberry flavor, add a bit of blueberry jam to the filling.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
