  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream

Additional:

  • Colorful sprinkles (optional, for inside and on top)
  • Buttercream frosting (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Prepare the dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Combine wet ingredients: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract. Mix in the sour cream.
  5. Combine dry and wet ingredients: Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  6. Add sprinkles: Gently fold in 2–3 tablespoons of sprinkles if desired.
  7. Fill cupcake liners: Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  8. Bake: Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool and frost: Allow cupcakes to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cool, frost with buttercream and top with more sprinkles.
