Ingredients

Units Scale

Lo Mein:

  • 8 ounces lo mein noodles or spaghetti

Beef:

  • 1 pound flank steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (for marinating)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Vegetables:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)

Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Garnish (optional):

  • sliced green onions and sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles: Prepare the noodles according to package directions, drain, and set aside.
  2. Marinate the beef: In a bowl, marinate the sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons soy sauce and cornstarch for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Stir-fry the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry the beef in batches until browned, about 2–3 minutes. Set aside.
  4. Prepare the vegetables: Add the remaining oil to the pan and stir-fry the broccoli until tender-crisp. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  5. Combine everything: Return the beef to the pan. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and black pepper. Add the cooked noodles and sauce to the skillet, tossing until heated through.
  6. Serve: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, blanch the broccoli briefly before stir-frying.
  • You can substitute chicken or tofu for the beef.
