  • 6 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into small pieces)

For the Crust:

  • 1 package (14 oz) refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade)
  • 1 egg (beaten with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash)
  • Optional: coarse sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well and set aside.
  3. Assemble the Pie: Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture, dot the top with pieces of butter. Create a lattice crust with the second pie crust.
  4. Bake: Brush the lattice with egg wash, sprinkle with sugar, and bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  5. Cool and Serve: Cool the pie for at least 2 hours before serving. Enjoy warm with ice cream or caramel sauce.
