Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Fritter Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

For the Apple Filling:

  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frying and Coating:

  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apple Filling: In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Cook until the apples are tender, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Make the Fritter Batter: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and melted butter. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until just mixed.
  3. Assemble the Fritter Bites: Gently fold the apple filling into the fritter batter. Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. Cinnamon Sugar Coating: In a shallow dish, mix the sugar and cinnamon. Roll the warm fritter bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
  5. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make sure the oil is at the right temperature before frying to ensure crispy fritters.
  • You can add a drizzle of glaze or caramel sauce on top for extra sweetness.
  • These fritter bites are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a day.
