Almond Bars

These Almond Bars are rich, buttery cookie bars topped with sliced almonds and a sweet almond glaze. They’re simple to make and perfect for holidays, potlucks, or anytime snacking.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and almond extract; mix well.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until combined.
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  7. Sprinkle sliced almonds evenly over the top and gently press them into the dough.
  8. Bake for 22-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let cool completely in the pan.
  10. In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract to make the glaze. Drizzle over cooled bars.
  11. Cut into squares or bars and serve.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper for easy removal and cleaner cuts.
  • Add a dash of vanilla extract for a flavor twist.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
