- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- Red, white, and blue food coloring
- 1 batch vanilla buttercream frosting
- Sprinkles or firework-themed decorations
- Optional: cupcake toppers (stars, flags, etc.)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Divide batter into three bowls and tint one red, one blue, and leave one plain (white).
- Spoon small amounts of each color into the cupcake liners to create a layered or swirled effect.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely.
- Frost with vanilla buttercream and decorate with sprinkles, colored sugar, and themed toppers.
Notes
- You can use gel food coloring for more vibrant colors.
- Store cupcakes in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
